Frequently Asked Questions

What Is an Elective Prenatal Ultrasound?

We offer elective 2D, 3D, and 4D prenatal ultrasounds to provide a positive bonding experience for mothers, fathers, and family members with an unborn baby. We feel that realistic surface images provide a connection between parents and baby, which can be beneficial to the whole family. A routine ultrasound examination must have already been performed to assess the gestational age of the fetus. Your doctor's ultrasound can better evaluate if any fetal anomalies and basic components exist.

When is the best time to have a 3d/4d ultrasound?

That depends on what you want to get out of your experience. Many mothers enjoy multiple visits.  At 16-24 weeks you can see the baby as a whole and determine gender.  At 26-33 weeks you can see a more detailed view and more movements.  Between 28 and 33 weeks, your baby develops more fat, which adds definition to his/her face. After 33 weeks, it becomes more difficult to obtain good pictures since the baby is running out of room.

Does this take the place of an Ultrasound at my doctor's office?

ABSOLUTELY NOT! Women seeking an elective prenatal Ultrasound with Womb with a View at Riverside must already be receiving treatment with a healthcare provider for prenatal care and have already undergone a medical, diagnostic Ultrasound ordered by their provider to confirm their due date, screen for fetal anomalies, and to look for any other pregnancy related issues. At no time is this exam to be used in place of a complete diagnostic Ultrasound.

What can I do to get the best possible 3D/4D pictures?

Doctors recommend maintaining a healthy fluid intake, especially while you are pregnant, so be sure to drink plenty of water! This will help ensure your amniotic fluid is full and clear. About 20 minutes before your 3D/4D ultrasound scan, eat fruit or drink some fruit juice (unless you are told not to by your physician).  This may help increase baby's activity during your session.
